A well-known entrepreneur celebrates his 70th birthday today

Who is he and what has he done in the past 45 years? A lot that’s for sure!

Who at times was the biggest employer in Unterägeri?
Did you know that he also owned, and for decades successfully operated a Sport and Tennis Centre, and that he designed its own sportswear called “Cloud”? In 1990 he managed to organise Unterägeri as a milestone for the “Tour de Suisse”. He created and published the trade journal “Philatelica”. His Royal Highness, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands visited him in Unterägeri for the opening of the new Groth AG building. He produced the UNICEF Stamp Programme for which he generated around CHF 30 million in royalties. He is the producer of the WWF Conservation Stamp Collection, the largest thematic collection in the world, which has raised over 21 million Swiss francs in royalties for which he received in 1998 the “Gold Panda Award”, its highest environmental prize, in recognition of his dedication to the cause of the environment. For many years he did the fulfilment and the commodity sales for REGA (Schweizerische Rettungsflugwacht) and for two years now, new and voluntarily, he has been the acting Vice-President of the touristic society of Unterägeri.

Hans Groth

Yes, it is nobody else but Hans Groth! This introduction by way of a short quiz may high-light the extraordinary  capability for innovation and the  enthusiasm for hard work of this great Entrepreneur and native of Unterägeri in the Kanton of Zug. In view of his determination and achievements one can only respectfully say - hat off - for Hans Groth.  Today, 24 February 2010, he is celebrating his 70th birthday – and he is still loving what he is doing and there is no sign of him giving up yet. He repeats the statement he made on his 65th birthday: “I have decided to carry on operating my business for a further five years!” Unterägeri is grateful and appreciates his decision as he definitely will also in the future generate a lot of economic wealth for the region. If you watch him type an e-mail (he types faster than he speaks…) or meet him on his almost daily Nordic Walking exercise (he outruns everybody…), you will have no doubts in him still excelling in all his endeavours.

The “Zuger Presse” sends its affectionate congratulations to Hans Groth, on his special birthday and also wishes him future happiness and success with all that he still plans to do.
